This Tumblr is no longer being used.

All appropriate parties go where directed, if that’s what you choose.

(Meaning, my LJ. :3 If you’d like to add me over there and haven’t already, feel free! I won’t be using Tumblr for much anymore but occasionally lurking for pretty pictures when the mood strikes/creeping on your text posts once in a blue moon, as I really am too old and unsightly for this beach. That, and I just vastly prefer Livejournal. It’s not you, Tumblr, it’s me. )

Oh, okay. I’ll shush.

NO NO I DIDN’T MEAN IT THAT WAY I’M SORRY it wasn’t directed at you, just a general “shush” to people who say you can only have one. Different strokes and all that jazz. It’s all good.

I will never not reblog this.

Taking "Kony 2012" Down a Notch

Kony 2012 is about making Joseph Kony, the leader of the notorious LRA, famous because, the line of reasoning goes, if everyone knew him, no one would be able to stand idly by as he waged his brutal campaign of terror against the people of East Africa.

I am actually stupefied that any analysis of the ‘LRA question’ results in the identification of the problem being that “Kony isn’t popular enough”. The reality is that few don’t know who Joseph Kony is in East Africa and the Great Lakes Region, making it all-too-apparent that this isn’t about them, their views or their experiences.

Please, please, please read this. I have no doubt Invisible Children’s efforts and objectives are admirable, but I do think it’s misguided and, unfortunately, largely ignores the people this is really about. Awareness is a great thing, and I’m glad people who didn’t know who Joseph Kony was on Monday now know who he is on Wednesday morning; but, unfortunately, buying bracelets and T-shirts and watching videos on YouTube is not the solution. Invisible Children also has some financial issues that have been raising eyebrows for a long time now, but that seems to be circulating pretty heavily on Tumblr this morning, so I’ll leave that aspect of all this alone.

This blog post provides some wonderful perspective, too. The latter part of the title also sums up an attitude I wish more people would take, in both social network environments and in life:  Don’t stop asking questions.
